How do we live deeply and remain open?

Studio Zinnia is my creative practice encompassing original paintings, commissioned work, writing, hand-bound journals, gatherings and art camps for girls.

My work comes from a lifelong inquiry into how we develop our own understanding of what makes a meaningful life. Yet knowing how we want to live is not the same as having the freedom to do so. As I work toward greater creative autonomy, I am aware of how tenuous that freedom can be for women and how closely it is connected to voice, self-trust and the ability to take one’s own ambitions seriously.

This lifelong inquiry weaves through my creative practice, which draws from literature, mythology, inherited ideas of femininity, conversation and daily life. I return to encounters that stir something in us: a line of poetry, a painting that stops the heart, the call of an ancient myth, the place where ocean meets sky, or a fawn lily standing alone, protected within the natural caverns of the earth.

These encounters awaken us to what matters and how we choose to inhabit our lives. My paintings emerge from the ideas they stir within me. My work moves between awakening and confrontation, stillness and contemplation.
