Studio Zinnia

How do we live deeply and remain open?

Studio Zinnia is a creative practice that brings together original paintings, commissioned work, writing, hand-bound journals, gatherings and art camps for girls.

My work comes from a lifelong inquiry into how we develop our own understanding of what makes a meaningful life. Yet knowing how we want to live is not the same as having the freedom to do so. As I work toward greater creative autonomy, I am aware of how tenuous that freedom can be for women and how closely it is connected to voice, self-trust and the ability to take one’s own ambitions seriously.

I explore these questions through painting, drawing from literature, the natural world, mythology and inherited ideas of femininity, as well as conversation and daily life. My work oscillates between awakening and confrontation and stillness and contemplation.
