My Work

Hello and welcome! 💜

I am Zinnia - the artist from Zinnia Awakens.

Since I was a little girl, I have loved gifting people things. An illustrated note. A bundle of wildflowers. A short story. A box for worries to be set down. I would lovingly craft these offerings and then place them quietly in a spot where the unsuspecting recipient would find them. I loved making people feel happy. How they would glow in the moment of discovery. I realize that what I really loved was the invitation for a person to feel seen.

Now, my intuitive practice allows each piece of artwork to become a conduit of love and support between beings. My hope is that my work can act as a means to explore and ease the burden of what it is to be human.

My relationship with poetry and the natural world underly all of my mark-making. Mixed media allows me the most expressive means to articulate my response to this life.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I studied English Literature at university before becoming a high school English teacher. (I still teach in the area where I live.)

Through Simon Fraser, I completed a Masters of Arts. My thesis examined how the artistic process, grounded in nature, helps us express what it means to be human. I have continued this inquiry through training as a yoga instructor, studying Transcendental Meditation, and studying Fine Art at Langara University. It has all become part of my foundation for living.

And so. Here I am. Blessed to be the owner of Zinnia Awakens - my small creative shop and studio located under the rainforest canopy of North Vancouver, British Columbia where the ocean meets the mountains.

All paintings and paper goods are created by me, Zinnia, with love in my Magic Cottage.

I hope you will love them. 💜

Love and light,

Zinnia 💜
